The healthcare supply chain revolves around the movement and management of materials, products and patient data. Of these components, patient data is the one that receives the least attention when it comes to supply chain optimisation and improving treatment efficiency. This is despite the fact that patient management is one of the most critical and cost sensitive functions.
Until now, the safe and secure sharing of clinical data between various healthcare practitioners/institutions, in parallel with a patient’s non-clinical data has been beyond the reach of most healthcare providers. E-vita was developed to satisfy this requirement.
The E-vita story started as part of a project to provide electronic clinical records for British armed forces serving overseas. Since then, it has evolved to become a comprehensive electronic health records system with applications from the primary care environment through to clinical trials and remote patient monitoring.
Recognised by the National Health Service Institute for Innovation, E-vita uses a secure web browser interface to simplify the capture and analysis of patient encounter data whilst leveraging the power of the most comprehensive clinical terminology database in the world (SNOMED-CT).
By incorporating a role based access system, with the option of biometric identification, E-vita allows rigorous control of access to ‘medical-in-confidence’ data, providing enhanced patient confidentiality whilst still offering excellent accessibility for administrators and managers. Combined with the adoption of the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption scheme, the result is a robust framework that protects sensitive information without obstructing day-to-day activities.
E-vita’s ground breaking approach to electronic patient records, provides a feature rich environment designed to meet the needs of clinicians, administrators and managers alike. With almost no infrastructure requirements, E-vita provides a scalable, low risk and cost effective foundation for the innovative delivery of healthcare services.
